SEATTLE – October 13, 2010

Leading-Edge Media Production Company Deploys Isilon Scale-Out Storage to Simplify Content Management for Project Pipeline, Improving IT Efficiency and Driving New Business Growth

Isilon® (Nasdaq: ISLN) today announced that World of Wonder Productions has deployed Isilon scale-out storage to power its leading-edge media production pipeline, including television, movies and Internet TV. Using Isilon’s NL-Series, featuring its OneFS® operating system, World of Wonder has consolidated all of its media assets and Final Cut Pro-powered video editing operations onto a single, shared pool of storage, simplifying content management to improve IT flexibility and reduce costs. With Isilon, World of Wonder can scale capacity and performance on-demand and in-line with business needs, streamlining its production workflow and accelerating business growth.

“With multiple projects in production at one time, and thousands of hours of raw footage per month, we are always looking for creative solutions to simplify management and streamline production,” said Tom Wolf, Chief Administrative Officer, World of Wonder. “Switching to Isilon was the perfect solution to the problems we were experiencing with our previous SAN system.”

World of Wonder is an international entertainment company creating innovative feature, television and Internet TV programming, including Tori & Dean: Home Sweet Hollywood, RuPaul’s Drag Race and Fantasia For Real. Prior to using Isilon, World of Wonder’s traditional SAN system couldn’t scale cost-effectively to support the production company’s continued growth, which escalated costs, limited application performance and complicated IT operations.

Working with Isilon channel partner Talon Data, World of Wonder deployed the Isilon scale-out storage to consolidate its entire production pipeline onto a single file system, simplifying content management for every stage of its workflow. Using Isilon’s SnapShotIQ® software application, World of Wonder can ensure its valuable content is reliably protected, while Isilon’s SmartQuotas® application enables internal charge-back for different user groups, improving operational efficiency. In combination with SmartQuotas, Isilon’s SmartConnect® application allows World of Wonder to provision its cluster between desktop editing stations and Final Cut Pro editing suites, improving content access and storage utilization to accelerate workflow productivity.

“As World of Wonder continued to diversify its production pipeline, it needed a central storage resource that could scale to meet growing demand, while minimizing management and ensuring its content was always available,” said Matt Anderson, sales manager, Talon Data. “Isilon fit the bill, as it’s simple to manage, easy to scale and reliable. Our success deploying Isilon at World of Wonder further demonstrates that for rapidly growing, data-intensive environments, scale-out storage is the way to go.”

“World of Wonder sits at the leading-edge of entertainment, where it is redefining how people consume media across movies, television and the Internet,” said Sam Grocott, vice president of marketing, Isilon. “By leveraging Isilon scale-out storage to simplify content management and accelerate production, World of Wonder is providing compelling validation of Isilon’s benefits for entertainment’s next generation.”

About Isilon

As a global leader in scale-out storage, Isilon delivers powerful yet simple solutions for enterprises that want to manage their data, not their storage. Isilon’s products are simple to install, manage and scale, at any size. And, unlike traditional enterprise storage, Isilon stays simple no matter how much storage is added, how much performance is required or how business needs change in the future. We’re challenging enterprises to think differently about their storage, because when they do, they’ll recognize there’s a better, simpler way.

Talon’s NetFlight™ With PacketExchange’s Global Ethernet Network Provides the Ideal Proof of Concept for Uncompressed, High-Speed, End-to-End Data Packet Network Delivery Solutions

LOS ANGELES, CA–(Marketwire – September 7, 2010) – PacketExchange, the next generation Ethernet and IP network service provider with reach across Europe, the United States and Asia, together with Talon Data Systems, a leader in networked data storage solutions and appliances for full-resolution digital content, have proven the first global suite-to-suite solution for uncompressed 2K film footage from London to Los Angeles and back. File transfers were delivered at 450MB/s directly to a Baselight color grading system, a rate nearly twice as fast as real-time transfer for 2K footage. With the ability to deliver 1TB of DPX frames in 37 minutes directly to a far-away color correction system, this new capability has the potential to enable collaborative digital workflows around the world, saving time and money.

PacketExchange’s private and secure global Ethernet network greatly reduces packet loss and jitter while offering 100% availability Service Level Agreement (SLA). Talon’s NetFlight™ data transfer appliance uses a completely new transfer protocol. Together, PacketExchange’s network and Talon’s appliance enable the highest data transfer rates without the need to compress files, preserving the original quality and associated metadata.

PacketExchange and Talon thoroughly tested the integration of the NetFlight technology across the network infrastructure to prove that uncompressed, end-to-end, high capacity data transfer rates can be delivered with guaranteed integrity across a long distance, quickly and efficiently. The solution substantially accelerates the ability for companies to share and transfer large bandwidth files across an expansive geographic reach.

“PacketExchange’s high performance Layer 2 network has proven ideal to stream and transfer extremely large files efficiently,” comments Chuck Stormon, VP of Strategic Accounts at PacketExchange. “The common practice of transferring files to tapes or portable hard disk drives and shipping them via traditional ‘overnight’ or ‘next day’ courier services have traditionally slowed projects down. Sending compressed files over the Internet also takes time, losing quality in the process as well as exposing them to security issues. With NetFlight over PacketExchange’s global private network we significantly improve the Time to Usable Data without sacrificing any of the quality of the original content.”

PacketExchange’s network is constructed using a fully resilient mesh of 10Gb wavelengths, leveraging multiple physically diverse transatlantic and terrestrial cable systems. Built over the last 10 years with multi-terabit switching capacities, the network provides a stable and private infrastructure across the globe.

“PacketExchange’s Layer 2 Ethernet network is the ideal transport solution for high-capacity applications to leverage NetFlight’s enhanced file transfer protocol,” adds Tom Shearer, CEO of Talon Data Systems. “The high data capacity and speed of NetFlight’s data transfer solution across PacketExchange’s secure network solves inherent problems with large data file transfers. We believe this new solution can assist professionals in Film, Broadcast, Post Production, Healthcare, Manufacturing, Oil/Gas and any other industry that requires large-bandwidth file sharing.”

In addition to providing a reliable, end-to-end, real-time, high capacity data transfer solution, NetFlight is also file-system agnostic, compatible with DAS, SAN, and NAS systems and is currently in daily operation at facilities with XFS, Quantum’s StorNext, SGI’s CXFS and Isilon’s OneFS. The Talon solution provides flexible access to both shareable data and/or direct access data across a guaranteed high-bandwidth network. The solution provides an end-to-end service that is not limited by traditional appliance capabilities. The file transport occurs on the network architecture without the need to be copied onto intermediary storage pools, data tapes or portable Hard Disk Drives (HDD). NetFlight is a completely integrated solution that does not require the typical ‘store-and-forward’ process that adds the delay of creating 2 additional copies of the content being transferred. This results in faster workflows and shortening the time to useable data at the location receiving the content.

The combination of the ideal file-system-to-file-system transfer appliance (Talon’s NetFlight), and a high capacity global network (PacketExchange), creates the perfect solution for high capacity data transfers and live streaming, that until now, has not been able to be realized due to both network and cost limitations. Customers interested in deploying the solution can connect to PacketExchange at any of its global Points of Presence (PoPs). Alternatively, PacketExchange can extend its network to customer locations using either 1 Gbps or 10 Gbps Ethernet interfaces delivered via fiber-optic cables. Customers using the NetFlight platform will achieve greater end-to-end network utilization, in the most effective, reliable and affordable manner.

To find out more about PacketExchange’s industry leading network and Talon’s NetFlight high capacity data storage and transfer solutions, visit www.packetexchange.net or email sales@packetexchange.net.

“NetFlight™” Launches A New Era of Ultra High Speed Collaborative Workflows for Media, Entertainment and Enterprise, Flying on Darkstrand’s North American High Speed 10 Gigabit Network

Los Angeles, CA (PRWEB) April 12, 2010

Talon Data Systems, a leader in networked data storage solutions and appliances for high-resolution digital content, and Darkstrand, a pioneer in corporate high-speed connectivity bridging research and commercialization, have announced a groundbreaking solution for ultra high speed workflows; the media industry’s fastest turnkey data transport solution. The solution, which employs Talon’s NetFlight appliances and Darkstrand’s fiber network, will be unveiled at NAB 2010.

NetFlight enables high-resolution digital content to move faster than real time, at speeds never before achieved in the industry. Using the NetFlight – Darkstrand solution, uncompressed media files are moved at rates that exceed 450 Megabytes per second over transcontinental and transoceanic distances. These results are as much as ten times faster than other accelerated transfer solutions.

The NetFlight – Darkstrand solution combines new technology for data access and storage with private network capacity to transmit uncompressed, high-resolution content easily and securely over large distances. Talon’s NetFlight appliances overcome latency and packet loss issues and support many file systems and storage devices already in use. Darkstrand’s network provides completely private and secure 10GigE layer one or layer two Gigabyte infrastructure, purpose built for large file transfer. It is anchored by its 12,000-mile, continuous optical network connecting thirty-one U.S. cities and HPC rendering facilities.

“NetFlight will revolutionize existing distance based workflows by moving files faster than existing data transfer technology,” said Tom Shearer, CEO of Talon Data Systems. “Our solution removes bottlenecks in an industry where large file transfer is usually compressed or exhibits high degrees of latency and packet loss. With NetFlight, media companies that need to transport, share and collaborate in real time will be able to cost effectively and regularly transport any high-resolution image files between production and post-production locations around the world. NetFlight has eliminated geographic boundaries and the need for lower quality copy intermediaries, saving productions both time and money.”

“Corporations are now embracing purpose built workflow solutions that translate to a strong competitive edge. Darkstrand strategically partners with leading-edge solutions providers, and creates tailor-made solutions that improve the workflow of particular industries,” said Michael Stein, CEO, Darkstrand. “With this dynamic Dark Strand- NetFlight partnership in place, a major media company can now create content, collapse pipeline production times, and link production and post-production workflow into one network. Access to these tools brings a new model of R&D and collaboration to corporate America and mitigates the effect of time and distance. Bandwidth is no longer a constraint on collaboration and innovation.”

The solution will be unveiled on April 12 at NAB 2010 in Las Vegas, NV where Talon Data Systems will host private previews of its system. To make an appointment for your preview, please eamil request for an appointment sales(at)talondata(dot)com or visit booth SU10118 to schedule your flight.

SEATTLE, WA – November 3, 2008 – Isilon® Systems (NASDAQ: ISLN), the leader in clustered storage, today announced that CIS Hollywood and FotoKem are among leading post-production studios using Isilon’s latest clustered storage systems, including OneFS® 5.0 operating system software and the Accelerator-x performance acceleration product, to power a wide range of post-production workflows – from digital imaging and film processing, to 2D composition and 3D animation. Isilon’s clustered storage systems create a single, high-performance, highly scalable, shared pool of storage to unify large and rapidly growing stores of digital content, accelerating data-intensive visual effects operations while reducing IT cost and complexity. Isilon IQ delivers up to 20 Gigabytes per second of performance and 2.3 Petabytes of capacity in a single file system and single volume, while the Accelerator-x delivers 10 Gigabit Ethernet (10 GbE) connectivity for next-generation, high-performance networking.

“At CIS Hollywood, we provide a complete slate of post-production capabilities while still maintaining a truly client-centric environment,” said Matt Ashton, CTO, CIS Hollywood. “Therefore, our business is innately focused on our clients’ projects, leaving no time to worry about managing our storage, or money to pay for more storage than we actually need. With Isilon IQ, we can simply pay as we grow, freeing us from costly storage overhead, while the performance of its latest systems is night and day with its previous generation, enabling us to accomplish more work in less time and better serve our clients.” (more…)

FotoKem Turns To Isilon Over Traditional Storage Vendors To Accelerate The Post-Production Workflow

FotoKem is one of the most successful media services companies in the world, with a 40-year tradition of improving the quality of films from classic black and whites to today’s blockbusters. FotoKem was founded in 1963 to provide film processing and printing services to film makers, and has established its reputation as a post-production house focused on quality, service and speed.

In the early 1960s, FotoKem visionary and founder Gerald Brodersen recognized trends taking shape in the film industry and resulting technology needs going unmet. With Brodersen at the helm, FotoKem entered a growing market at the right time, with an approach to technology and customer service unlike any other. FotoKem continually expanded, and today offers post production and complete media services solutions for its customers – which include the top film and television studios in the world. The company boasts a spectacular, cutting-edge post-production studio, with five fully-outfitted theaters and capacity across the company to accommodate hundreds of projects at any one time.
